How it works
Materials
At the moment I am working with stoneware clay from Switzerland or surrounding countries such as Germany.
I like to use local materials, but I also love to combine them with materials from foreign countries to make them unique. For my creations I like to use glazes from Bodmer, Botz or Terra Color. All shells are dishwasher friendly - to give your lovely shell a long-lasting life I recommend to hand wash it. I get all the tools from Switzerland. All the ceramic pieces were produced in my beautifully arranged atelier in Zurich.
I roll out the clay and put it into the appropriate mould. I flatten the clay by hand and tools to give them the form that I want. The plaster then draws the moisture out of the clay and causes it to dry. As the clay shrinks a little when it dries, it makes it easy to remove the shell from the mould. At the end, I refine the objects with my tools and hands and let it air dry again. After that I put it into the kilin for the first fire called bisque fire by 980 degree. The next step is to give the shells a unique glaze so that they are waterproof and ready to use for your lovely drink or delicious meal. With the final glaze firing get the ceramics a polish and shiny finish. All in all, it takes me about four days from the raw clay to a lovely handmade ceramic piece.
